In strict compliance with that curriculum, the themes that permeate the book are: Local Geography, the Earth and the Solar System, the Environment and its Resources, Regional Geography, Map Reading and Interpretation, Economic and Human Geography and Introductory Geographic Information System (GIS). But unlike what obtains with the conventional study of geography, these broad seven themes have been broken down into smaller topics in a way that reflects the more urgent realities and socio-economic challenges of a rapidly evolving world, one that is also becoming digitalised by the day.
In all, there are twenty chapters in Book 1. Each chapter starts with an introductory paragraph that sets out the broad parameters of the topic being examined. Generally, the chapters are interspersed with colourful images and illustrations that are designed to accentuate the meanings of the topics and increase understanding for students and teachers alike. At the end of each chapter, a summary of what should have been learned is presented.
